Life as a busy mom can often leave us with little time to focus on our own happiness. But our family’s happiness is impacted by how happy we feel. You’ve heard the saying, If Momma ain’t happy, nobody’s happy, right? While it’s usually said in jest, it’s absolutely true. How you show up to your relationships emotionally, sets the tone for them. Are you leaning into what makes you happy?
If you want a happier family, look inward. I’m not saying you’re responsible for your family’s happiness, but as the Huffington Post states, the best way to raise happy children is to be happy ourselves. Your mood and outlook do play a role in the overall family dynamic, just like anyone else’s. Embarking on a path of self-reflection can allow you to discover more about what lights you up, rekindle your passions, and create a fulfilling life that brings happiness not just to your children but also to yourself.
Reflect to be Happy
Self-reflection is the compass that helps us navigate our journey on this planet. Take a moment each day to pause, breathe, and reflect upon your emotions, dreams, and intentions. I do this every morning before my day gets started. You can create a sacred space, be it a cozy corner or a serene garden, where you can delve into your inner thoughts without distractions. Or maybe just get up 15 minutes before everyone else. Dedicating time for self-reflection enables you to better understand your desires, strengths, and areas for growth.
Make it Real
Writing your ideas down make your thoughts more concrete. Daily journaling is my favorite way to do that. A journal is your personal canvas, allowing you to express your thoughts, dreams, and struggles in a safe and non-judgmental space. Journaling has a transformative power, helping you gain clarity, relieve stress, and rediscover what truly brings you joy.
Make it a habit to jot down your thoughts, gratitude, and achievements each day. Unleash your creativity by doodling, writing poems, or even capturing your dreams. Through journaling, you’ll develop a deeper connection with yourself, finding solace and uncovering hidden passions that can light up your world, and help you discover what makes you happy, and what doesn’t.
Step into Happy
One you’ve got a better feeling for what makes you happy, step into it. Maybe time alone itself is the thing to brings you more joy. So schedule more of that. Your next step doesn’t have to be huge, just something to get you moving forward and gathering more information. Do some online research. Ask a friend who might know something about a topic area, or sign-up for a class. Experiment with new hobbies or reignite old flames.
Use your journal to document your experiences, reflecting on the joy these activities bring into your life. Remember, by nourishing your happiness, you become a role model for your children, teaching them the importance of self-care, resilience, and following their dreams.
Protect your happiness
To maintain a sense of happiness and balance, it’s crucial to set boundaries and prioritize your well-being. When you figure out what makes you happy, make it a habit. Learn to say no when necessary, freeing up time for activities that recharge you. Prioritize self-care by scheduling alone time, delegating chores, or a making coffee date with a friend. Your happiness is essential, and by establishing healthy boundaries, you create a space for joy to flourish.
Remember that you deserve happiness. Embrace the power of self-discovery, as it will not only bring joy into your life but also radiate positive energy to your family. Your journal will be your companion, capturing moments of growth, gratitude, and inspiration. Prioritize your passions, set boundaries, and watch your inner happiness blossom.
By investing in yourself, you become a beacon of love and positivity, which people can’t help but noticey. Unleash the joy within, and watch your world transform!
